Abstract

In general, retrofitting of buildings is made to improve the earthquake performance of deficient buildings with irregularities as they are more vulnerable to earthquake events. In this paper, the half scale model of three-storey reinforced concrete building with vertical and plan irregularity is retrofitted with the construction of shear walls. Modal analysis and linear time history analysis are carried out using SAP 2000 for the building. As the eccentricity between the centre of mass and centre of stiffness is significantly reduced due to the construction of shear wall, fundamental torsional mode coupled with translational mode is eliminated. The first mode of the building with plan and vertical irregularity is made to translation. The earthquake performance of the building is evaluated using the engineering software SAP 2000.
